The Mobile Entrée Base Plugin is a mobile application that provides out-of-the-box configurable access to SharePoint lists, document libraries, discussion boards, surveys, and search without having to write any code.
The Base Plugin is included in the Mobile Entree Base Feature, activating this feature will make the Base Plugin available. Once activated, the Base Plugin is not configured, your first step is to create an instance of the Base Plugin and then select which lists and libraries to allow mobile access to. Follow these steps to configure the Base Plugin:
- You must have "Manage Web" permissions in your sharepoint site and the Mobile Entree Base Feature must be activated.
- From the Site Settings Menu select Mobile Entrée Configuration

- Click on the Application Configuration tab.
- Create a new Base Plugin instance by clicking on "New Mobile Application Instance". Select the Base Plugin and give it a name and description.
- Under SharePoint Mobile Entrée Properties, navigate through the tabs to determine which Lists, Libraries, Discussions, Surveys, and Sites are displayed and whether or not to make Search available.
- General
- You can hide/show the Home button and, if you are not configuring the Top Level Site, hide/show the Up Button.
- Show Application List: Any mobile applications instances you have configured will show up if this is checked. The text box allows you to rename the section.
- Enabling the parsing of Email and Telephone Links will allow the base plugin to attempt to generate hyperlinks for email addresses and phone numbers on any details screen. Currently, the regular expression patterns supplies are for US based email addresses and phone numbers. While international email addresses may still be supported with the supplied regular expression string, international telephone numbers will probably need a different regular expression string.
- Ignored Paths: This is used for paths in the SharePoint site that you do not want the HTTPModule to parse and execute.
- Show Home Button: If checked, this will display a button that will take the user out of Mobile Entree and into the full SharePoint site. This puts a cookie on the device that will remain there until the browser is closed.
- Search
- Select whether to display a Search interface or not and then, if enabled, select the search scopes you would like to make available.

- Lists
- Select the Lists and List Views that you would like to display to the mobile user.
- Configure any enabled List View to show 1-3 Fields. The fields displayed are the first, second, and third fields in the selected List View. The following rules are exceptions to take note of:
- The built-in Type field is ignored and the next available field is used. If no field is available, an empty string will be used.
- The Attachments field will render as 'Attachments - X' where X is the number of Attachments.
- In Events Lists, the following fields are handled as special cases
- You can optionally hide the New button on a given List View. This mobile-only feature that is applied in addition to normal SharePoint Permissions. If a user does not have Add Items permissions on a given list, they will not see the New button regardless of the settings here.

- Discussions
- Select the Discussion Boards you would like to make available to the Mobile User.
- The available Views will include only Views that are visible from the root of the Discussion Library.
- The 'Hide New Button' option is the same as the Lists configuration tab and follows the same Permissions rules as well.

- Document Libraries
- Select the Document Libraries and their respective Views you would like to make available to the Mobile User.
- The Field Count Selection option for Views follows the same rules as the Lists configuration Tab.
- The 'Hide New Button' option is the same as the Lists configuration tab and follows the same Permissions rules as well.

- Surveys
- Select the Surveys you would like to make available to the Mobile User.

- Sites
- Select the Sites you would like to make available to the Mobile User.

- Remember to click Apply Changes when you are finished.
Once your need for mobile SharePoint content has surpassed what the Base Plugin can offer, it's time to take a look at developing a custom mobile application using the Mobile Entrée API.
Note: The Base Plugin will work with out-of-the-box SharePoint alerts or any other direct link to lists/items that are configured to be visible.
